5500 miles from Florida to Oregon?!

There were some issues with the first scheduled pickup when I discovered that Roger did not have the necessary insurance coverage for driving other people's vehicles for pay. He had told me that he carries "$100,000 cargo insurance plus the full coverage insurance for any vehicle that I drive." I later found out that he wasn't insured to drive my truck, or any other customer vehicles, thus I had to cancel the shipment on the very day it was supposed to be picked up.

Roger contacted me again about 2 1/2 months later when he saw my truck was still waiting to be moved. I agreed to let him IF he provided proof of insurance. After acquiring the proper insurance, Roger faxed a pile of paperwork to me: proof of insurance, DOT certificate, driver's license etc.

In order to keep my fee down, Roger said he was going to use my truck to tow some jet skis to Portland and was picking them up in Atlanta. According to Google Maps, Atlanta is directly on the route from Florida to Oregon, so there shouldn't have been many extra miles added to the trip, which Google calculates as 3211 miles to my door. The truck arrived with about 5,583 miles put on it by Roger, that's more than 2000 extra miles that are unaccounted for. I don't see any way for that many miles to be driven on that trip, unless he was using my truck for other hauling jobs or sightseeing. There's no way to be sure exactly how many miles, because he didn't note the beginning or ending mileage on the form - that's pretty shady right there! I didn't check the mileage while he was here, he was in a hurry to catch the next train. I didn't notice it till a few days later (the truck didn't have any plates, so I wasn't driving it), Roger had used his transport plates for the trip.

I have tried repeatedly to contact Roger about this issue, and he hasn't responded to a single email since delivering the truck. Roger seemed like a nice guy when he arrived, and I thought I might consider using him in the future if I ever bought a vehicle on the east coast again. However, after the excessive mileage and his failure to respond, there's no way I would hire him or recommend him to anyone.

There was also a stain on the center console fabric when he arrived, and he claimed it was just a wet spot due to condensation from his Coke bottle which had been leaning against it. He said it would go away once it dried. It did NOT go away, it is definitely a stain. I don't know if it was already there when he picked up the truck, but since he made up the wet spot story, I assume not. I mentioned it in my emails, but since he hasn't replied, there's nothing more to say.

I will be filing a complaint with the BBB.
