On time, but not easily

Based on reviews from this site, and on their lowball cost estimate, I retained Cascade Vehicle Shipping to move a Suburban from Salt Lake City Utah to the Canada/US border at Blaine. Cascade had over two weeks notice and available days to pick up the truck. My only stipulation was that it be delivered on or before February 1st, as I lived 9 hours north of the border, and would only be in the area that day. Cascade was among the lowest quotes I received, at $635.
Kimberly from Cascade was very friendly, and assured me that this would not be a problem. I didn't hear much the first week from Kimberly, but contacted her as I became worried over the lack of contact. During this time, I turned away a half dozen other companies as I thought Cascade was on it. On the 28th, she located a truck. However, she said she would need $800 to get it to Blaine. Obviously, I didn't have time to go elsewhere now, and had little choice but to agree. However, looking at the timeline, I thought it would be safer if I met the truck in Seattle and drove it up myself. The truck was picked up two days late. However, once Kim put me in touch with the truck, who was Gentle Touch transport, I was very happy. Road conditions were horrible with all mountain passes being closed. Todd and Katie from Gentle Touch went above and beyond, driving the long way, putting in extra long hours, to get me my truck from Salt Lake to Seattle in just two days, in time for me to JUST get to the border prior to it closing for the weekend at 3:30. All in all, I did get my truck on time. However, if it did have to go to Blaine, it would have been late, so I made the right decision flying to Seattle. Doing so, however, cost me a day of my time, $180 for a flight, and various cab and permit fees totalling another $100. This is on top of the extra money that I had to pay over and above the original quote. Long story short: I got my truck on time, but it cost me a heck of a lot, and I attribute the timely arrival to Gentle Touch, not to Cascade. That said, Kim was great to deal with and helpful...though finding a truck a week earlier would have been more helpful and cost effective, and perhaps would have helped Cascade meet their quote. Not sure if I'd go with Cascade again or not. I'd deal with Gentle Touch anytime though. A few notes: the truck was dirty because it had only recently had the snow melted off of it, and I really didn't have time for anyone to wash it...the border was going to close on me! Also, the late pickup on Gentle Touch's behalf wasn't their fault...they were stuck on a closed interstate for a few days. I have to think that this wouldn't have been an issue if Cascade had of located a truck in a more timely manner.
