I started off requesting quotes from a number of companies to ship my vehicle from California to Montana. Universal/consolidated transport provided very pushy quotes stating things like "we must act now as the price of gasoline is increasing!!!". They called and emailed alot right up until you provide them a deposit then silence.....
I wanted my vehicle to arrive on a specific date and as such I contacted the company well in advance (3 weeks). as the date drew closer i had heard nothing from this shipping company other than the odd email saying "we will contact you shortly regarding pick up of your vehicle". I emailed the sales rep (Bruce) and my assigned move coordinator (Freddy) 20+ times with no response. I the called them and left messages... no response.
Given the distance, i figured the vehicle had to be picked up a week before the drop off to be safe. so a week before this cut off date, I called the dispatch and customer care lines. I spoke to the same woman quite a few times and all i got was "we are working to get it on a transporter". Every time i stressed the importance that the vehicle had to be delivered on a certain date. I asked that someone call me back at COB just with an update so i knew where i stood.
On the last day i called and they said they could maybe get it on a transport for an additional $150! I couldn't believe the nerve! they had backed me into a corner knowing that i couldn't get a transport on such short notice and tried to exploit the situation. i told them they could cover the additional cost and they said they would get back to me. where have i heard that before... no surprise, no phone call.
Today is the day before my vehicle was supposed to be delivered and i just got off the phone. This time i get the story that Consolidated auto shippers and universal auto shippers were 2 companies but because consolidated were giving "the shipping" industry a bad name, the kind people at universal bought them out. after hearing this heart warming story i asked when this acquisition was. i was told 3 weeks ago. which means the atrocious service i was receiving was all post this merger. therefore don't believe the whole "we are a better company" BS stories they will give you.
And it gets worse! after failing miserably to get my vehicle shipped i asked for a full refund of my deposit and was told they couldn't because universal didn't have access to the old accounts! are you kidding me! I was told by the operator at dispatch that i had to contact my credit card company and file a dispute!
I honestly cannot believe this company is so inept! please do yourself a favour and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. i have never come across a company so useless and incompetent.
