I am not a dealer or someone that has reason to transport cars all the time. I'm a guy that likes cars, and since I needed to buy a car- I figured that since I keep cars for a LONG time, I might as well buy what I love. Problem is- I couldn't find the exact car I wanted anywhere near where I live.
I found a car that I was interested in but it was located in Florida (I live in NJ). (After having missed out on 2 other cars because they were too far away- I pursued this one a bit more earnestly). The harder I looked at this car, the nicer it looked, so I had a PPI done on the car, and ended up buying it.
A month ago I would have thought you were crazy if you told me that I'd buy a car from out of state and have it transported here. I just never thought that I'd feel safe having someone else inspect a car for me, and have a trucking company deliver it to me unscathed- but that's exactly what I did!
While considering buying this car, I started doing research for a carrier who is reasonably priced, but with good customer feedback, reliability and a good record for delivering cars damage-free. US Auto Transporter looked to have nearly perfect feedback, and when I called to talk about their service, their rep (Annette) spent over an HOUR on the phone with me answering my questions and addressing my concerns. She even gave me the driver's cell phone number and I was able to ask him some questions about the transport, the truck, the route, the method they use to hold the car to the truck- everything.
They picked the truck up on Wednesday morning in Florida (early- at around 6am- but I guess the seller was alright with it), and delivered it at around 11am the following Friday right in front of my house.
The car had no additional damage, dings, dents or scrapes from how it was loaded on the truck in Florida- As promised, the car was held down with soft straps on the tires (I've read horror stories of truckers using chains on the relatively soft suspension components on German sports cars) and no crashed or damaged auction cars were sitting above it leaking fluids down on it (read a lot of reviews given for different carriers- that happens all the time!).
I was kind of skeptical that I'd be completely happy with the outcome (as I'm a technical type, and rather picky when it comes to people handling my cars) but for those of you who are squeemish (like me) about things like this- US Auto Transporter is an EXCELLENT company and are truthful and up-front about their practices.
Thank you Annette for taking great care of my new (to me) car, and thank you for not getting too annoyed by my many questions and concerns. You all did a fantastic job (and the price was really fair- most brokers were asking $750 and $800!)
Know that the people you are dealing with give you all of the information up-front, and you can make an informed decision without any surprises later on.
I do not know if or when I'll ever need another car transported, but if that need arises my first call will be to US AUTO TRANSPORTER.
