Erroneous Charge

What a pain in the rear.

I followed the contract to the letter. It states that AutoShippers would charge a $195 administration fee and that I should pay the driver the remaining amount once I received the car.

Everything went as planned. I received the car in good condition and I gave the driver a check for $500, which cleared my account within a day or two. A few days later, however, I noticed that, in addition to the $195 Administration charge, AutoShippers decided to randomly charge my card $525.

Mistakes happen and I called their attention to it. I was told that the charges would be reversed. When they weren't, I wrote again and was asked to provide a copy of the canceled check, even though there was no dispute from the driver's side as to whether or not I had paid him. Why should I jump through hoops for them?

After I saw that no credit was forthcoming from AutoShippers, I had to have my credit card company reverse the charge.

It seems to have worked out, but why deal with a company who feels it's okay to randomly charge their customers? Isn't the administration fee enough?

This was in fact a mistake, the dispatch department tried to reach the driver to confirm that Mr. Schroader in fact paid the driver directly. He did not respond in a timely fashion and we only received proof of payment on 5/20/08. We regret that this happened and Mr. Schroeder will indeed receive his refund at once.
