On October 29, 2003, I searched the web to locate an auto transport company to transport my rare classic car from Vancouver B.C. to Eagle Idaho. I checked with several companies and found that I would need to also hire a broker to assist in the service. I enlisted the service of Auto Rail Forwarders because of their supposed expert service in moving cars through U.S. customs and they had their own broker. Boy did I get screwed. I was charged $1,567.00 that I had to pay up front before the company would proceede. I was told this included all costs and delivery would be right to my home. I was told a delivery time of one month for the service to which I aggreed to. I had my car inspected by a local company prior to the car being picked up for my own peace of mind. I sent Auto Rail the cashiers check Fed-Ex. The car was picked up on November 5, 2003. On December 1, 2003, after several attempts and left phone messages I finally got ahold of Gerry Jovenetti, the owner of the company to ask where my car was. He replied "it is scheduled for next week". The next week comes and no car. I called sometimes two and three times a week and it was the same routine. Leaving messages and hearing "it is scheduled for next week". I then found out this company does not possess their own trucks contrary to what the web site advertises. I found out that my car had been moved several times to other terminals. I also found out that one of the drivers had taken the car home and was driving it back and forth to work. On February 16, 2004 I get a phone call from Gerry at Auto Rail Forwarders saying there is additional charges because they messed up the paper work up in U.S. customs. I was told if I wanted my car I would need to immediately pay an additional $200.00 or my car sits where it was. I went ballastic but I had no choice but to pay because my car was being held for ransom. A third party broker then contacts me to tell me I am going to be receiving a bill for $250.00 for his fees for US customs papaer work etc., and for his services to Auto Rail. When I told him I had heard enough and was contacting my attorney he backed off. I have not heard from him since. On February 25, 2004 I get a call from a third party carrier that is delivering my car and they are 8 miles from my home. They tell me there is a C.O.D. charge of $300.00 and that if I want my car this will need to paid at time of delivery. They told me they did not trust Auto Rail Forwarders to pay their delivery fee and this is why I would need to pay it. Again I went ballastic but have no choice but to pay the $300.00. I inspected the car to find that an outside mirror was broken off and missing. The drivers side window crank was broken off and missing. There was several deep scratches on the front of the hood and on the doors. Near the trunk were shoe prints where someone had stood on the Continental Kit panels and cracked both of them. Several areas where large chips of paint were missing The keys to the car were also supposedly lost. I contacted Auto Rail to request a damage claim per the instructions in their contract. Their reply was "sorry we can't help you". I am now contacting the US Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney Generals Office in pusuit of fraud charges against this company. DON'T EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!!
