| A Little Disappointed in the Experience |
This was my first experience with using an auto transport system so my expectations might be too high, but I was disappointed in the condition my vehicle arrived in, the increase in cost, the time it took to pick up the car, and the lack of response from Cascade about my concerns.
My 1979 Trans Am showed up at 11:30 at night which was fine since I work nights. When I arrived at the local mall to pick it up I could not believe it was the same car. It was absolutely filthy. When the truck driver started it up dust blew out from under the hood like a leaf blower had been opened up on a dirt pile. The driver advised that he had to go down some dirt roads and that it why the vehicle was so dirty. The transport company was Flexible Transport out of Albany, Oregon.
When I got it home and in the light I found asphalt tar type rocks on the hood and pebbles in the hood scoop area. The biggest issue were rock pebbles wedged in between the hood and fenders that caused minor damage to the decal on the Trans Am's hood. This combined with what appeared to be buckets of mud all over the vehicle.
After 3 1/2 hours of cleaning I was able to get back the car I had purchased except for the minor damage from the rocks.
I know that Cascade is just a broker, but I was disappointed in this experience. This may be an average story in this business so be prepared when shipping a car. I thought Cascade should know about this so I sent them an email about it and received no response. A few days after the email someone called to check and see if the vehicle showed up. I advised her of my concerns and she said she would check for my email and that was the last that I heard.
Combining this with having to wait 10 days for the car to be picked up and then having to pay another $90 over the quote leaves a poor impression.

We are sorry the trucking company caused damage to the vehicle. Your vehicle was going from Michigan to Washington on an open carrier, so your vehicle was going to be dirty.
It does state in our terms and conditions:
Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. nor the carrier will be held responsible for vandalism, acts of God (fire, flooding, hail, sand storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc.) or objects flying from the road or sky during transport. Shippers (or agents) should maintain their own insurance for these reasons.
Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. will perform due diligence to insure carriers are fully insured. Carriers are responsible for the vehicle while the vehicle is in their possession. Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. is not responsible for any damage done to the vehicle while in the carriers possession.
There should be an inspection performed by the carrier at both the time of pickup and delivery and a Bill of Lading completed. Shipper (or agent) should inspect the vehicle carefully with the carrier at both the time of pickup and delivery. Shipper (or agent) is responsible for proper preparation of the vehicle for transport. All loose parts, fragile or protruding accessories, low hanging spoilers, fog lights, antennas, etc. must be removed and/or properly secured. Any part that falls off in transit is shippers (agents) responsibility, including damages done by said part to any and all vehicles involved.
If damage to the vehicle should occur, all money owed for the transport must be paid to the carrier to initiate a claim. Damage must be properly noted on the Bill of Lading and signed by both the carrier and shipper (or agent). Without proper notation of damage on the carrier’s Bill of Lading, shipper (or agent) verifies that the vehicle was received in good condition. Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. must be notified by phone within 24 hours of delivery of the damage. Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. will support shipper (or agent) in filing insurance claims. Claims are to be filed directly with the carriers insurance. If the vehicle is valued at a higher than market rate, we suggest you purchase a special insurance rider.
