First off let's get one thing correct. United Car Transport is a booking agent. All they do is place your car on "the board" for some shipper to pick up. Once the shipper has your vehicle, you are at the mercy of the shipper and the booking agent can do little about any problems.
****Beware of ever accepting Abdul's Towing as a shipper***** They were a nightmare! I booked this job on Thursday 05-27-10. I spoke to truck driver Ken personally on Friday 05-28-10 and he assured me that he was picking up my vehicle at the Chevy dealership in Montana on Saturday 05-29-10 and would have it to me in Naples Florida by Saturday 06-05-10. His exact words were, I'll drive straight through and I will definitely have it there by Saturday. On Wednesday 06-02-10 I contacted driver Ken to ask how things were going. He said fine and he would have the vehicle to me by Saturday or Sunday. I reminded him that I was going to Tampa on Sunday morning and needed the car on Saturday. Ken asked me why I was going to Tampa and I told him that I do not see how that is any of his business, but if he must know, I am taking my son to college orientation. Ken said, well then I will have to get it to you on Saturday, but it might be late. I told Ken that would work out great, because I wanted to work overtime Saturday during the day. I told Ken I would call him on Friday night (06-04) to confirm. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Ken never answered his cell phone, presumably he has caller ID. Monday (06-07) I spoke to the owner of Abdul's towing (he didnt answer his phone over the weekend either). He was very rude and put me on hold every 30 seconds and eventually the phone disconecctd while I was on hold. He asked if I expected Ken to put the vehicle on a plane and fly it to me and said that there are laws that prevent his drivers from driving 24 hours a day. I informed him that I am a police officer and know the laws, I know it does not take 9 days to drive from Montana to Florida. If they couldn't make it on time they should not have promised to get there on time. I next spoke to Ken who said that he had been stuck in Jacksonville Floridasince Friday and not answering his phone was his way of dealing with all of the angry people who's cars he had not delivered. Ken promised I would have the vehicle by noon on Tuesday 06-08). I called Ken at 0930 am on Tuesday and he said he was not going to make it by noon, but he was on his way and would be there maybe around 3 or 4 pm. I called Ken at 3:30 and he said he was on his way from Tampa. He arrived at 6:30 pm. Ken was fairly nice until he got the $1,100 cash in his hand and I pointed out a deep scratch on the front passenger door. Ken then became nasty and said that I purchases a used car (a 2010) and that scratches are to be expected. I told Ken that the owner of the Chevy dealership himslef checked the vehicle and guaranteed that it was perfect. Furthermore, the sheet that he (Ken) completed on picking upthe vehicle lists "no scratches." Ken then placed a check mark next to an area that stated that he could no check the vehicle for scratches becuase it was dark when he picked it up. Ken then told me that I should not tell people that I am a police officer because it makes them drive slower. I told Ken he should not lie to people and promise that he is going to be places when he has no intention of being there. Ken denied saying any of the things listed above. I will try to get the company to fix the scratch but I doubt I will get anywhere based on past posts where people have had their vehicles damaged by Abdul's Towing and they do not take care of the damage.
**** Tina from United Car Transport was very attentive when I booked the transport. On Monday (06-07) Mike gave me advice that I should not try to hold back any money from Ken as a result of all the lies, and me having to rent a car on Sunday (06-06) to go to Tampa, because some of these drivers are mean and will actually keep the car hostage until I pay them in full and charge storage for each day they have it. Instead of handling issues in civil court*****
I would give United Car Transport a second chance because they do seem honorable, but if they ever try to book you with Abdul's Towing..RUN AWAY and use a different booking agent because that would tell me they do not have their customer's best interests in mind.
