What a smooth transport this was! I contacted Specialty Mobile because they were advertised on a military-related website and I had no personal references from anyone to go by. In the midst of a huge household move I'd forgotten the minor detail of arranging car transport for my beloved '94 300ZX, and Amy at Specialty Mobile was the most upfront and helpful person I could have hoped for. She was very reassuring which I needed during the stress of this move. Not only did she expediently arrange this VERY SHORT fuse transport for me (I called just a few days before I needed transport), but she explained the whole process to my satisfaction and was the shining light of this whole household move. I did call two other companies for price comparison, and this was even a little cheaper at $1270 for a San Diego to DC transport on open truck.
Let me tell you - do not fret over this process. Just be thorough. Have your car clean at pick-up time so that existing damages (scratches, dents) are visible to you and to the pick-up agent. Take lots of photos if you feel the need. About open trucks - your car gets no more exposure to the elements and to road grit than it would if you were driving it. Think about that and you won't worry so much. My pick up was smooth - late in the day as he'd had to do a delivery downtown. I am a flexible person so this did not bother me at all. Allow time for these things so that you don't stress out. He took great care to properly set up his truck so that the very low front end of my car would not be damaged when he drove it up. I was impressed. He even took the time to explain to me how the car is held down as he was doing his work. For delivery, I'd given a "not sooner than" date, and I got the call to arrange delivery the day after that date. The driver arranged to mee me in a local shopping center parking lot maybe 2 miles from my house. I could have biked there if I'd had to. He gave me a few hour window on when I could meet him, and I celled 15 minutes ahead of the time I went over there. The car was parked and ready for me. I did have to slow him down a minute so that I could inspect it. It was pretty dusty dirty (not surprisig after a long trip on an open truck) but without damage. I made him wait while I started it and took a spin around the lot. Then I was off to the carwash and enjoying my sports car again! I couldn't have asked for a simpler experience, and at a reasonable price. Now, if only the military would have covered it as pat of our move! : )
