I worked with Amber Moore to ship my classic car halfway across the country. She secured a driver for me, but he flaked out the morning the delivery was to occur. I contacted Amber and she was able to find another driver within an hour who was able to pick the car up even earlier than the original driver was, albeit at a higher cost. In my case, getting the delivery done on that day was more important than the price, so it worked out. Throughout, the communication was timely and clear and Amber did a great job instilling confidence that things were going to work out despite the hiccup.
These brokers work with a number of small independent drivers, and those drivers have their own criteria on what jobs they'll accept at what price. My advice, unless you're not picky on shipment dates, is to go with a broker based on reviews and not on the price quoted, because it will almost certainly change, especially if the initial quote is low. In my case Sonic was about middle of the road as far as the initial quote, but the reviews had fewer red flags in them than brokers who quoted lower prices (and most who quoted higher as well). Given how things turned out, I made the right choice.
