Overall Good with Some Improvements Possible

Ship-a-Car Direct's process is well-honed from their helpful website to initial contact with broker to automated follow-up processes once services are booked. The actual shipping company that transported my car (Umbrella Transport) was also good; the pick-up driver was nice/efficient/competent and the delivery driver was also efficient/competent/polite. They had standard processes for contacting me/clients about 1 day in advance to arrange/confirm pick-up and delivery times. While the overall experience ended up fine, with my car arriving albeit 13 days post-pickup (3 days beyond the tail end of the estimated 7-10 day window), there were a few moments when things were stressful, particularly at the front end. I indicated a three-day pick-up window to Ship-a-Car Direct so that the final day for pick-up would be 1 day before my movers for my apartment came. However, while Ship-a-Car Direct was good at sending auto update email reminders that they were trying to match me with a shipper, I had to call twice for live updates on the status, particularly when it was getting close to the tail end of my pick-up window. It seemed only based on my calls and my conveying a sense of urgency that the broker's dispatch found a shipper but on the same day as my apartment move with no alternate pick-up day possible. I had to - at the last minute - move my movers' timeframe to accommodate Umbrella Transport's limited pick-up availability. Umbrella Transport also asked for $200 more than the original quote, which I ended up agreeing to because I was not left with much time to react given needing to leave NYC. Both of the mentioned pain points of this car shipment process made for highly stressful moments during an already stressful period of time in moving out of a major urban city. Had the above two pain points not happened, I would have given a 5-star rating. I do appreciate Ship-a-Car Direct's review and rebate process to encourage clients to provide feedback that I hope/think they will take into consideration to improve some lacking areas of their otherwise good processes.
