Ship A Car is basically a guy named Scott serving as a booking agent. He's most likely running his business out of his home office in Colorado. You pay Scott an exorbitant fee (in my case, $225) for him to search a database and find a towing company which services your desired route (in my case, LA to Boston). Upon delivery, you pay the towing company their fee (in my case, $750).

Interactions with Scott were fine. However, at one point my plans got disrupted and I needed to find a way to change the shipping route and a few other small details. When I spoke to Scott on the phone, I could hear in his voice that he just did not want to deal with doing the extra work (i.e. searching his database, which took less than 10 minutes to get a quote from the first time). Since I already paid him his fee, I pressed and asked him to look into it. Never. Heard. From. Scott. Again. He could have at least called and said he wasn't able to find any options that suited my needs.

Anyway, everything went fine. Car arrived damage-free and on time.

Pros of using Ship A Car Direct: you don't have to do all the research and vetting to find a towing company. You also get the additional insurance/coverage provided by Ship A Car Direct, so in the event anything happens, hypothetically Ship A Car will cover the damages.

Cons of using Ship A Car Direct: high booking fee.

I got booked with Unified Auto Trans Corp (out of LA) and was pleased with their service. If you're going from Southern California to New England, just call them directly and see what they quote you. My car arrived 7 days after shipment and without any damage (delivery window was 7-10 days).

PS. When I booked with Ship A Car direct I was told I would get a $30 rebate upon delivery. Little did I know that in order to get that rebate, I would have to fill out this review. Ugh. Neoliberal capitalism.
