I wrote the following email to Ride Movers on January 29, 2005. To date (Feb 12, 2005) I have had no response whatsoever). I post the email because it details my experience with them -- a few good points but mostly bad. One must remember that Ride Movers (as are most of the other transport companies) merely brokers for the transport. They go to some sort of clearinghouse for truck drivers looking for hauling jobs and match your needs with the available drivers.

Dear Ride Movers,
I have the following comments and observations on the subject order 1271 and service associated with it.

1. Both Teresa and Dwayne were very helpful via phone on information, status, etc concerned with this order. They returned phone calls and answered questions promptly.
2. The order was placed on January 7, 2005 for the shipment of a 2000 Toyota Avalon from Sarasota, FL to Corvallis, OR. The down payment of $155 was paid by Autos Unlimited to Ride Movers as per the contract. During the quote process and order placement, Teresa indicated that the normal pickup time was between 1 and 8 days.
3. The quote for $950 (minus another $20 internet order placement bonus) from Ride Movers was consistent in price with other vendors. Some were slightly lower ($920) while some were higher ($1100) for the exact same door to door service. Ride Movers was chosen primarily based on the recommendations obtained from the web site http://www.auto-transport-reviews.com/review/RideMovers-Inc.asp .
4. After the order was placed on January 7, 2005, Teresa indicated that not many trucks were moving between FL and OR so it might take a little while.
5. On January 13, 2005 I called Teresa to see what the status was. She called back saying that she was working on it but nothing had been found as yet.
6. On January 14, 2005 Dwayne called and indicated that Ride Movers had found a truck shipper but that the shipper would require an additional $100. Dwayne asked whether I was interested in paying the additional fee. Obviously I was not pleased but this was well into the process and we needed to get the car to Oregon. I guess I should have bargained with Dwayne or insisted then on Ride Movers honoring the initial bid but we needed that car. I agreed to the $100 additional fee.
7. Dwayne called back a couple hours later on January 14 and left a phone message saying the car would be picked up on the next Monday (January 17, 2005) and delivered to Oregon on Wednesday. I was very pleased that we would have the car in the next week but was confused how a truck could get from Florida to Oregon in 48-60 hours. But I didn't have the time or real need to call Dwayne back and clarify things. Dwayne also gave me the number of the trucking company so I could call them directly for info.
8. On January 19, 2005 (Wednesday, the supposed delivery day), I called the trucking company to see when the delivery time was going to be. I spoke with the trucker's wife and she said her husband had picked up our Avalon in FL but was still picking up the last car for the rest of the load in Atlanta, GA. He was pretty much on schedule and she was surprised that I was expecting our car on the 19th. She indicated it would probably be at least another week before delivery if everything went ok.
9. I called the truck driver several times during the week of January 24 to see what his status was for delivery. He indicated delivery would late in the week. As he got nearer to Oregon and Corvallis he firmed up a time of Thursday, January 27. The car was delivered at about 4:30 pm on January 27. Upon delivery I paid the driver $900. I questioned him why it wasn't $895 but he was certain it was $900. We also talked about the trucking job he had and he indicated that he had dropped by his home for a day and a half during the trip for a visit.

Ok, why I am writing?

1. The original quote indicated a $20 discount for internet order placement. We did not get the $20 discount unless you included the discount in the original $950 quote. If it was included, why put that $20 in the quote form and confuse the customer. I based some of my selection of Ride Movers on that discounted lower price.
2. Everybody who ships a vehicle probably wants/needs the vehicle yesterday. When you are 7 or 8 days into the contract and Ride Movers asks for an additional $100 to get things moving, that's not fair or businesslike. You had plenty of time during the quote process and while the order was being placed to reconfirm the price and availability of truckers for the route that I required. After the deposit is paid and the contract signed, Ride Movers should have covered any additional charges. To expect me to cancel the Ride Mover contract and start over with someone else when we were already 8 days into the process, just isn't realistic.
3. The additional fee was supposedly $100. The driver tacked on another $5.

I would like you to address these 3 items that I have mentioned above.

As stated per our conversation. All pickup times are estimated. As for your price. All drivers are independent contracters and can choose which vehicles they want to pickup. That is why we gave you the option whether or not you wanted to pay the additional $100.00 to expedite your pickup. If you were not happy with that price that is the time you should have said something about it, not 3 weeks after it was delivered. Second, We would never tell anyone that a driver is going to deliver a vehicle in 2 days on a route that is over 3,000 miles! Sincerely, Teresa
