After much consternation and worry, I finally settled on Reliable Carriers, Inc. to deliver my Dad's 2001 Buick from a snall town in Illinois to my home in a rural area of Northern California. Dad just turned 99 and lost his driving priveleges. At any rate, he always said I could have his car when he could no longer drive. Although the car was 4 years old, it had only 13,374 miles on it. It was in perfect showroom condition, so naturally I wanted to keep it that way.

Delivery cost was not my biggest concern, but quality of service was paramount. I chose RCI partly because they advertised in Hemming's automobile publication and partly because they claimed to use only their own drivers and transport trucks. Also, they claim to have been in business for a long time and were established as a transporter for Detroit auto manufacturers. I would never choose a broker to move a valuable vehicle...I want to know who's involved and who to go after if there's a problem.

I received my quote via the on-line quote process. I highly recommend this. I don't think you will get a lower quote using the telephone. In fact, calling them for a quote turned out to be the wrong thing to do for me....they wanted quite a bit more this way. As it was, I got a firm quote of $1026 at a time when gasoline prices were going up 10-15 cents a day.

Well, like I said, I was worried about damage and so on. Gee, I even thought that what would I do if the car just disappeared and ended up in Mexico or South America. After all, I had no real background on the company! Well, I can tell you that Reliable Carriers, Inc. exceeded my expectations by a huge margin. The service was flawless and much quicker than they quoted. Further more, the married couple (Mike and Sheryl Norman) that were the team driving the transport rig were exceptionally friendly and careful. I can't say how nice they were. After talking to them for 10 minutes, I felt like we were old friends already.

Although I paid for open carrier service, the Norman's rig was a big, beautiful orange tractor pulling an ENCLOSED trailer that was both huge, in like new condition and spotlessly clean.

Mike and Sheryl kept in touch by cell phone, so I always knew when to expect them. I left the car at a trucking firm owned by an old classmate of mine in Illinois. I left it there on a late Wednesday evening and emailed RCI to let them know it was ready to go. Mike and Sheryl showed up on the following Saturday at 9:30 am. By Monday afternoon, they called me from Long Beach, California to tell me that they'd be at my place on Tuesday. And sure enough, they came right on time. So, instead of 3-4 weeks and an open carrier, I got 6-day service in an enclosed trailer. The car was spotless inside and out...they even had plastic on the driver's seat and a paper floor mat when they backed it off the truck. I'm sure I got the best service on could possible expect, but I can't imagine why anyone would choose any other company. Hat's off to Mike and Sheryl and Reliable Carriers, Inc. I'd trust them with a stable of Ferraris, Vipers, Hummers and Corvettes, should I ever be lucky enough to have them!!!
