I had previously used an open transport service to ship a car on a similar route (CA to IL) for $897 in 2012. I was willing/hoping to pay around the same price this time and started with open transports quotes from uship.com and they ranged from $7-900.

Due to the particular car I was shipping this time I wanted to find out how much more it would be for enclosed and ideally with a lift gate since the vehicle was lowered. I had read many reviews, requested recommendations and received quotes for some of the top rated enclosed transport companies in the US and they all were in the $1800+ range. Many of them advertised a “white glove” treatment or that they were used by celebrities or specific car manufacturers.

I tried to justify spending double what an open trailer would have cost for peace of mind having the trailer enclosed and with a lift gate. However I also contemplated just using open transport since inclement weather (i.e. hail damage) wasn’t a concern this time of year and everything is insured regardless. I would have also considered a soft/canvas enclosed trailer to help find a happy medium of pricing.

After reading several reviews, recommendations, and testimonials on line and in the community I requested a quote from Montway and came back at $1299 with a special promotional discount of $1249 if I pay a $199 "deposit" once a truck and driver is assigned. The rest would be paid upon receipt. This was no problem for me and was happy to get the additional $50 discount. The price was perfect and exactly what I was looking for, a few hundred more than open and less than double the other services were quoting for enclosed.

I had a special circumstance where I was going to be out of town and needed to schedule the pick up further out (about a week and a half) to make sure I would be home from my trip to receive the delivery. My trip ended up getting cancelled and I called back to move the pick up date up to as soon as possible or next available. Montway was able to accommodate all my requests and within two days from when I made the change request they called me in the morning and told me they were able to schedule pick up later that day, a Friday. The dealership in CA informed me later that evening the pick up went smoothly.

The ETA I was given for delivery was the following Tuesday through Thursday. I received a call Monday morning to let me know they would be there that afternoon a day early. I was ecstatic about the 3 day delivery time for over a 2000 mile trip.

I received a phone call from one of the drivers themselves and made arrangements to unload at a near by parking lot since driving the 53ft+ trailer in through my neighborhood would be cumbersome. They were able to accommodate and the unloading process also went smoothly. Both operators were professional and took care in what they were doing. They worked well to communicate to ensure nothing was damaged in the process. Overall the unloading took around half an hour with only having to move one car to get to mine.

After speaking a bit with the drivers they had unloaded 4 other cars that morning in Missouri and Indiana and had the last car to unload in northwest Ohio after mine (trailer can fit 6 vehicles total). I was impressed how quick and efficiently they had planned out their route for early delivery.

I would definitely recommend Montway Auto Transport to anyone in a similar situation looking for the best price on safe reliable enclosed transport. They were able to accommodate every request and exceed my expectations for the absolute best price to everything else
