I had an absolutely horrible experience with Magic Carpet. Essentially, just about everything went wrong. The car was scheduled to be picked up 5 times. One time I was told by Crystal of Magic Carpet that the truck was 20 miles away and on its way. No show and no call that day. The Magic Carpoet literature said generallythe car is picked up 1-8 days from order; mine was picked about about 3 weeks after the contract date. Yes, I was told that the pick up and delivery dates were approximate, but no one told me that there wouild be 5 scheduled pickups with incredible inconvenience for me each time and a three week delay in picking up my car.

Another major problem was the price. I had been told that the price to transport my car was X and this included all charges, no extras, etc. Then some time after the contract was entered, I got a call from Magic Carpet telling me the "driver" wanted more money to pick up my car. I protested; a deal is a deal. It turns out that a deal is NOT a deal with Magic Carpet.

The owner of Magic Carpet then told me that the quoted and agreed on price was not really a final price; it was an "estimate" (which my paperwork did say). I found this obnoxious since I had heard of the practice of jacking up the moving cost and I had asked Crystal specifically whether this was the total price, no additional charges, etc. She assured me it was. In addition, the email from Magic Carpet to me said the price I agreed to pay was "all inclusive." To make matters worse, the owner of Magic Carpet informed me that what I thought was a contract was actually not a "contract." It was something else. (I confess I have no idea what else it is; I am a very experienced lawyer familiar with commercial contracts).

Bottom line: I do not know whether Magic Carpiet is better or worse than other companies. No doubt some people have had good experiences with this company. I did not and would recommend that you try another company. Maybe it will be better. I understand that Magic Carpet is a broker, not a transport company, and is subject to the whims of drivers. Nevertheless, Magic Carpet takes credit when a transport goes well; it also bears responsibility for a disaster.
