My car was shipped cross country (California to Pennsylvania) by FHT. My contract was actually with a different company who then outsourced the actual shipping/delivery of my car to a carrier, FHT. My car was to be picked up by FHT at my father-in-law's house in San Diego a couple weeks after I had already moved back east. I was told that FHT would call me to let me know when the car was picked up. They never did that. They did, however, call my father-in-law to let him know they were picking up the car. I was also told that I would be notified a few days prior to when the driver was to arrive in Pennsylvania so I could have the $650 cash OR cashier's check ready for him when he delivered the car. I received a call from someone at FHT's office on a Wednesday at 7 p.m. EDT to let me know that the driver would be delivering the car the very next morning. I asked why I wasn't notified earlier so I could go to the bank to get the money. She said she just heard from the driver then and gave me his cell phone. She also gave me the cell phone of a manager, Arman, so I could call and see if they could deliver the car later in the day so I could go to the bank first. When I called the manager, it went straight to voicemail, and I left a message explaining what happend and asking if they could deliver the car later in the day or even on another day. I didn't need the car right away so I was fine with waiting longer if that was easier. When Arman called me back he said they'd probably have to put the car into a terminal in New Jersey and I'd have to go and pick it up. He said there was an additional fee to pick it up though he didn't know how much. I said I would be willing to do that and asked if he would be willing to waive the fee given the inconvenience. He said no and that it wasn't his fault it was inconvenient. At this point his demeanor and voice became very aggressive. He said if I wanted my car I'd have to go over to Jersey and pay for it. I was taken aback by how rude he was with me. I asked him how much the fee was and where the terminal in Jersey was located. He said he would get back to me with that information. He also said that I should get the acshier's check made out to Blue Eye instead of FHT, which I though was strange since my original contract said the check should be made out to the carrier FHT. The next morning around 11am, I hadn't heard back from Arman so I called and left him a voicemail on his cell. Then I called the FHT office. A very nice woman named Susan said she didn't know anything about the terminal or the fees but did confirm that I should get the cashier's check made out to FHT, not Blue Eye. She also said she would try to contact the driver to see if he could bring the car to me in Pa. as originally planned. Although it probably wouldn't happen until later that day or most likely the next day. That wasn't a problem. Like I said earlier, I didn't need the car right away; I just didn't want to have to go all the way to New Jersey (paying tolls to cross the bridge) and pay extra to get my car back. Later that evening, around 6 p.m. Arman finally got back to me but he said that I'd have to get my car from the terminal in Maple Shade, NJ and that it would cost me an additional $50. I told him that Susan said they were going to try to have the driver come back and deliver the car to me. Arman said no and that if I want my car I need to go to New Jersey to get it and he wasn't paying the fee. He continued to yell and wouldn't even tell me where in New Jersey the terminal was. He said I had to call the office. He conferenced in Susan who finally gave me the address of the terminal. Being that I just moved to the area, I asked if either of them knew how far it was from where I was. Susan started to explain and Arman immediatley shouted, "I don't have time for this. I'm getting off the phone," and he hung up.
In the end, I ended up having someone drive me 35 miles to the terminal in Maple Shade, New Jersey to pick up my car. I had to pay the fee myself to the guy at the terminal as well as $8.00 in tolls for me and the person who drove me over. So much for door-to-door service. Not only will I never use FHT Autotransport, but I warn all others about them too.
