Low price, but not without drawbacks

I dealt with Joe and it was not an altogether positive experience. For starters, I didn’t feel like he was completely honest with me. When he gave me his initial quote I was told I’d need to act on it right away. If I waited, he warned that the price would likely go up because gas prices were going to rise. This seemed like B.S. as gas prices have been stable for months. I suspect he was trying to cover himself for giving me an unrealistically low estimate.

Next, he was very unaccommodating in terms of the pick-up window. I only had someone available 4 days a week to sit around for a driver and he found this difficult to work with. He basically told me that all these constraints were going to cost me. Other brokers seemed like they would be more accommodating.

The final thing that left a negative impression was that he contracted with a company with a D+ rating from BBB and 3 stars on Transport Reviews. He insisted that he only worked with reputable drivers. This does not seem to be the case. And the moving company lived up to its reputation. The driver was 4 hours late on pick-up, and on delivery he refused to bring the car to my house. Instead he got to the other side of town and said his truck couldn’t make it on the city roads. Moving trucks come to my neighborhood all the time, but somehow he couldn’t figure it out. I had to take a $20 cab ride to meet him and get my car.

But on the plus side, Car Shipper USA does only charge $105 broker fee (they quote the fee as $100 but the actual charge is $105 due to “paypal fees”). Other companies I contacted charged $150 or more. I ended up getting my car transported for a pretty good price without any damage. So I guess I would give these guys a neutral recommendation, but with reservations.
