I purchased a small classic car online, and needed to have it shipped to me. I did not go with the lowest rate ON PURPOSE, thinking I might have better luck.
I was originally quoted $350 door to door, but received a call from Allstate stating that they had a driver that would pick it up between 4 and 5 pm that day, but needed an additional $30 because it was "out of his way".
I agreed to this as I wanted the car picked up, and I was told it would be delivered the next morning (Sat) since it was only 300 miles.
The car was not PICKED UP untill after 9pm (not between 4 and 5), thankfully the seller of the car was helpful and understanding.
I then expected the car the next day, as I was told, but instead received a call from whomever Allstate Carriers contracted, at approx 12 noon on Sat. This person said it would be Monday morning between 9 and 10 am. Having no control I had to agree as they had my car.
It is now Monday at almost 5 pm and I am still waiting. I am sure that I will eventually get my car, but I have wasted an entire day "being available".
If I had been told 3 days, 4 days, or whatever, I could live with that. Just don't make promises you can't or won't keep.
Other people have a living to make too. BEWARE!!! You will get your car when you ship with these companies, at some time, I am sure. Just don't believe a lot of what you are told.
Everyone talks real nice, and seems helpful, but ultimately you are at mercy of everyone else, and can only hope for the best.
