The most stressful part of my move

Using AAAdvantage Auto Transport was hands-down the most stressful and expensive part of my cross-country move.

One of the reasons I selected the company was because of the short 3-day window they promised for the vehicle pick-up. My car was “released” August 24 so I scheduled my flight from Boston to Los Angeles for August 28. After literally hours of waiting on hold to speak with their customer service representatives, I learned that my vehicle would not be picked up until the following week. I was forced to inconvenience a friend to baby-sit my car, making him to leave his job during the day to meet the driver and inspect the car.

The car was not picked up until September 1st, where it then proceeded to sit in the East Walpole, MA terminal for another week. I was without my vehicle for 24 days.

While their customer service agents were sympathetic once I got them on the phone, I often waited 15 minutes or more to speak with them. Once I finally did speak to them, they rarely were able to provide me with concrete information. Their online tracking system only had the estimated shipping and arrival date, not the point-to-point satellite tracking advertised on their site. My estimated delivery date was listed on the site was September 14th, but I did not receive my car until September 21st. The best advice I received from one of their agents was to seek compensation for the enormous additional costs I incurred while waiting for my vehicle.

In the over three weeks of waiting for my car to arrive, I was forced to rent a car. While I anticipated the cost of renting a car for a week, I did not anticipate having to spend $627.10. While their service claims to be affordable, the additional costs I incurred while waiting for my vehicle made choosing their company the most expensive decision I could have made.

While I understand car shipping is an inexact science, I believe I was inconvenienced far beyond reasonable expectations.

When I asked for some form of compensation (as suggested by their customer service agents) I did not receive a response for almost a month and when I did it was a form letter.

Moving is stressful enough without having to go through this ordeal. Do yourself a favor and skip AAAdvantage Auto Transport.
