I chose Sue Wheeler and Wheeler Transport because of the reviews here XXXespecially the ones that described Wheeler Shipping as dedicated to following through if there were any issues with a shipment. I also liked that Sue responds to reviews. I got about 4 quotes, but though others were lower, their reviews sometimes mentioned that the actual cost ended up being higher as drivers demanded extra delivery payments, etc.
Wheeler chose an actual shipper that had some mixed reivews, but working through Wheeler, they were OK for me. The pickup was very professional at the technical end, but communication was mixed: the pickup company was confused about order number, and (as usual) gave rather short notice for the pickup. But the equipment was in good shape and the pickup driver was very competent.
Delivery, likewise, was short on notification time XXXin fact, I had to track down the shipper, with Sue Wheeler's help, since the phone number I had was not answered and had a full voicemail box (This helps explains why this shipper has a mixed record!). But Sue knew the 'real' number to reach them, and when I finally did, it turned out my car was already underway for delivery XXXthis was a day after the beginning of the delivery window, so it was definitely and very positively 'on time'. But if I had not called the delivery company, I might have been out, since they made no noticeable effort to give me notice about the delivery time.
In short: Sue Wheeler met the description in reviews: she was responsive, on top of the situation, and helped when help was needed. If I have a suggestion for Sue, it's to improve the communication flow. I know that she can't control actual shippers, but she works with them regularly and can put some pressure on them. And Wheeler's own communication was a little uneven and confusing, sometimes, though when I got to Sue on the phone, everything always worked out.
Wheeler Shipping is competent and Sue responds honestly and helpfully when you call her. In a business in which an awful lot is mysterious most of the time, I'd call her a good bet!
