SO, I inherited a couple of vehicles that were located in a state other than the one in which I reside (approximately 1500 miles or so away). I set out to find a carrier that could help me retrieve the cars. The details were complicated and time sensitive, so I will spare you. My concern is that anyone in search of an auto transport company knows 'the game'!
I contacted two other carriers prior to speaking with Ron from Sweet Spot Transport. Unfortunately, I have deleted all correspondence from both companies in an utter fit of disgust! So, I cannot provide the company names to warn anyone who reads this. Both companies gave me the run around. And, the M.O. for both companies was the same. At first, I received several calls, emails and voice messages. When I was able to return the call, I of course spoke with a smooth talking charmer that only had my best interests in the forefront... RIIIIIIGHT!!! Needless to say, I went along with the pitch. Then, after my transport information was collected, I did not hear from anyone (from either company). I had to call for information. The first 2 - 3 times I called, I was able to reach the representative.; and, although I cannot remember the names of the companies, I certainly remember the names of the representatives. One was named Sean and the other Desi B. But, keep in mind, they were from different companies. I was repeatedly told (by both), "I am really trying to find someone to move your vehicles". Then, I could not reach either of them. I actually called from my normal number and got no answer. Then I called back from my Google Voice number, and just like magic, my call was answered. Once they figured out my Google Voice number, they stopped answering it... LOLOL. So THEN, I called from my work number. It was a fun little game. This went on for several weeks. I started looking for another company after doing some research and learning a little about the game these guys play. Fortunately, I crossed paths with Ron from Sweet Spot Transport. We talked for a bit. He gave me a run down of his credentials, experience and success stories. At first, I thought, "Great, here we go again". But then Ron did something the other guys had not. He actually told me how the transport business works. I will not go into detail, as that will be his job to do should you decide to contact him. However, after talking to Ron, I was definitely at a little more ease. There was light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Of course, I was still skeptical after my experience with the other two individuals. So, I decided to put Ron 'to the test'. I was very impressed. If I called and he did not answer, he returned my call within no more than 15 - 30 minutes. Even more impressive was the fact that he responded to my text messages. Ultimately I used Ron's company to transport my vehicles. And this is where I want to make sure everyone knows this... Ron did not ask for any money up front. This, from what I researched, is a tactic unethical auto transport businesses use. It is called the 'bait & switch'. They give you a verbal quote. Then they get you to give up your CC information to pay a deposit. After that they tell you, "Oh, hey, we're sorry, but the driver will not do it for the amount we quoted" (because they gave a verbal and nothing was in writing). Then they give you a SIGNIFICANTLY higher price. Well, now money has changed hands, AND they have your CC info. At that point, your stuck. Thankfully, I had done a little research prior to contacting anyone and heeded the warnings of other consumers that cautioned against giving CC info!!! Perhaps this is why I got the run around. I would not give up any money without verification of transport details. Well, Ron did not ask for a deposit until he sent me an email verification / agreement between him and the driver, for a set dollar amount; a binding contract! There is SO much more to the way these people operate that it is unbelievable! I do not have enough knowledge to give information on the "National Carrier Board", but apparently, this is what these companies use to screw people. Ron can tell you more about that as well. Needless to say, if you are looking for an auto transport company, go straight to Sweet Spot Transport. Do not use U-ship, Angie's List, or anything similar. That is exactly where I found the first two companies I mentioned! I have not used Angie's List since! And, if you decide to use someone other than Ron, please pay attention to what happens. I am certain, your experience will be almost exactly the same as mine. AND, if Sean or Desi B. contact you... HANG UP!!! Seriously!
Ultimately, Ron located a driver, gave me an estimated pick up date (within 24 hours as my vehicles were located in North Dakota, in the winter time!) and gave me a drop off date. He was dead on. But, even more impressive than that was when Ron told me the steps I needed to take to undo what the other two companies had, unbeknownst to me, done that screwed me... Once I took the steps Ron informed me of, which involved having my transport information removed from the carrier board I mentioned earlier, he was able to actually pinpoint the DAY he predicted I would have an offer from a driver!!! Again, there is SOOOOO much to this auto transport business that it is scary, sickening and seemingly without option.
As a very cautious consumer, I always try to make sure I am educated on whatever it is I am purchasing. Please learn from my tedious experience. That is why I took the time to post this. In fact, had other people not taken the time, I might have given my CC info without knowing any better. I HIGHLY recommend Sweet Spot Transport if you are in need of an honest, straightforward transport guy!!! And seriously, you will be dealing with an individual, not a company! I could not be happier! Thank you, Ron! Kudos!
