The research phase was very stressful. I had no personal recommendations so I had to go online and pick a company. All companies have their horror story reviews but I chose SHIP A CAR DIRECT because of their large number of excellent reviews (and the negative reviews all had personal responses from the owner).

Of course ship-a-car-direct is more of the organizer and the company responsible for everything, they pick a carrier that fits your schedule so you are dependent on two different companies doing their job right. for me, everyone involved did an excellent job. Adam my rep at ship-a-car-direct always emailed me back quickly and was thorough in his responses. The carrier was on time for both the pick-up and delivery, both times calling me well ahead of time (day before and the hour before) to remind/update me on the status.

I moved from Los Angeles to Massachusetts, about as far as you can go for a cross USA move and the delivery was 8 days total. I was really expecting more than that so I was a wonderful surprise. Of all the stress of a cross country move (jobs, 2 small kids, 2 cats) this process was quick, painless and easy. While I don't have experience using different companies, I would quickly use this service again since everything was flawless.
