Interesting experience- Not what I expected

I worked with Jason. He was very nice and always returned my call. Overall, I think he did his job but I did have problems with the whole experience. I wanted to ship 2 cars on the same truck and made my cars available on July 6th because I was flying to RI on July 16th. I didn't want my cars delivered before July 17th as there would be no one to receive delivery. My 1st car was a sedan and me second car was a large SUV (Yukon XL). When my available date passed, I wasn't concerned as I knew it was early. After a five days, I started to get nervous as the longer the cars waited, the longer I would have to rent a car at my destination. I understand it is impossible to time it perfectly as there are a ton of variables that make a shipment happen. Anyway, after 7 days (Jul 13) I was extremely nervous that I would be leaving my cars not knowing when they would get there. This was not desirable at all.

We called and upped our bid (and after and hour with no action, we upped it again- we really wanted to ship these cars before we left!). Again, there was no action. We were told we were above the market for our cars but with our large car, it was difficult to move it. We discussed upping our bid more but were discouraged from doing so.

We contacted shippers directly, but they were even more expensive. On the 14th and 15th we started tallying up the costs of weekly rentals in RI ( it is tourist season and we couldn't get an acceptable car for less than $350/wk) and were were very nervous. On the morning of our flight (July 16th) we made the decision to take our large SUV off the bid to ship and just ship our sedan. Within an hour we had a mover for the sedan (so it likely was the Yukon XL which was holding up the shipment and made our pickup 12 days late). We had to cancel our plane flights and and drive our car across the country which was not what we had planned to do. Overall, our cars made it safely across the country, but not in the manner desired. So lessons learned:

1. Even though your bid may be "market price" it may not be enough to move you car (if it is big)
2. I found out after the fact that if we had bid $300 more for our large car, the shipper would have taken them both saving us a trip across the country with a 6 week old child (we were open to this price but were counseled not to raise the bid as we were already above "market price", but in reality we must have been below market price since our car wouldn't ship)
3. We did see some nice sights along the way

Our moving experience for the sedan was perfect. There were no problems once we got a transport company to accept our bid.

Thanks for the useful feedback, Todd! I'm sorry you had to find out first hand that it's much easier (quicker and cheaper) to ship a sedan than a larger pick-up or SUV! Please contact me again for any future car moves. 866-221-1664 www.shipacardirect.com
