Maresca's Auto Transport

My husband and I spoke with Maresca's to transport a 65' Chevy C-10 from Colorado to Ohio. They quoted a price and we paid a deposit of $150. Within a day or so of paying the deposit, the driver arrived to pick up the truck. The truck was going with a replacement engine in the bed of the truck and various other parts. The truck, engine, and the various other parts weighed, in total, approximately 4,000lbs. Upon the arrival of the driver, he said he couldn't take it because it weighed more than 5,000lbs. We insisted it weighed less. He shook his head, said no, and rolled his eyes at us - as if to express disbelief and plain disrespect.
The driver asked how much we were quoted and we told him $1,000 - he said he would take it if we paid $1,500. Of course, we said no, the vehicle, even with the extra parts still weighed less than a modern-day car or truck (as a reference, a 2020 Camaro weighs 4,100 and a truck would weigh even more). At a minimum, the vehicle and the extra parts certainly weighed less than what the driver anticipated.
The driver turned around and left. Wanted no more of the discussion with us. Because the deposit was paid through Paypal, I immediately took to Paypal to request the deposit be refunded. They offered $50, which was an insult. The driver insisted his reasons for increasing the price was because the vehicle weighed over the allotted 5,000lbs - not strictly because of the parts. Had there not been extra parts and the vehicle weighed 4,000lbs it wouldn't have been a concern. You see, the math works out either way.
After going back and forth with the representative, I finally agreed to a 50/50 split. They held firm to their offer of $50 and the complaint has since been escalated to Paypal's escalation department. There was no disclosure of a non-refundable deposit, there was no early discussion about the 'condition' of the vehicle and there was NO attempt to remedy the situation while the driver was on site. The driver was rude, disrespectful, and we've certainly not received any better treatment from the company.
Steer Clear! Bait and Switch. I will NEVER use again and will certainly share my experiences with others. Finding a reputable broker is never easy and this one doesn't make it any easier. Save yourself the hassle and move on to the next name on the list.
