I was over-charged $260.
Was given an original quote of $1125. You never know about scams or fraud, so I clearly asked if there were any other costs or fees, and was just as clearly told "no."
They had trouble moving my truck, and the cost went up to $1250 which I agreed to. Imagine my surprise when I was charged $1510!
No one at Magic Carpet Auto Transport ever said it would cost $1510. Not one word. When I called and complained that they had not ever conveyed this number to me they dismissively stuck to the, "Well it says right here in our notes - 'from two different people ' - that you agreed to that price" routine.
It might say any number of things in their notes, but at no time did anyone in that office ever utter the words "$1510", or "and that brings your total to $1510." They will have a rebuttal to this complaint, but don't believe them. They take hundreds of calls, and can't remember what was or wasn't said to each caller, whereas this was my only vehicle being transported and I had a budget of $1200, so if I had heard $1500 I would have declined. This was NEVER said to me, despite their stubborn protests that it was, or that I must have "forgotten". Customers don't forget those things, especially when I spent so much time shopping around to get the best quote.
They made the mistake in not communicating the additional $260 fee and when I called to complain they weren't willing to admit it, or even willing to split the fee.
I should also mention that once I called to lodge my complaint about the additional $260 I did not receive good customer service. They never seriously entertained it could have been their error. They promised to have Nicole return my call, which did not happen for a week. I called back and was told Nicole would get back to me... when I asked if it would that same day or the following day, they were evasive and said they couldn't guarantee when, that she had meetings etc.
After they had my money, and I had a complaint, they weren't as available, and did not prioritize addressing my concern.
When I called back a third time I got lucky and Nicole answered the phone. However, I was rebuffed with the "it's in the notes" routine.
It might have been in the notes, but the total of $1510 was never spoken to their customer.
My advice: Steer clear of Magic Carpet Auto Transport, and don't believe their excuses.
