NEVER,NEVER,NEVER give a broker an "upfront" payment. This outfit gave me an unrealistic low bid (I had lower bids that I did not accept) then they pulled $195 off the top for their commission and put the remainder out for the carrier. I got no takers. I upped my price by $50 and still no takers. I threateed cancellation and got them to go up $75, but still nothing. Finally, after two weeks, I fired them. The moral is to find a broker that charges a fee only after they have lined up a carrier. Do as you please, but I learned a lesson.
