After checking out Transportation Reviews, I contacted 3 of the top-rated companies for quotes for enclosed, top-loaded transport from Baton Rouge LA to Charlottesville VA. The quote from Domestic was significantly cheaper than the others, so after asking a few pointed questions and getting reasonable answers, I decided to go with them.
This review is supposed to focus on the broker, not the carrier. I gave the broker 5 stars because they were always available, always pleasant, and always had a reasonable answer. Overall, they did a very good job of making a new and somewhat intimidating process fairly painless.
During the shipping process, I did have a few suggestions for them. For example, I suggested that they add a dollar amount and details about acceptable forms of payment to the notice they send out by email when the car actually loads. I had not realized that cash or cashier's check was required, so I was glad that I asked that question BEFORE the driver showed up.
The only downside to my experience was carrier related. I can't complain too much, because the car arrived on time in perfect shape for the price I had agreed to and the driver was pleasant enough. The only thing is that he must have been somewhat new to the job, because he had trouble finding both the pick up and drop off locations. The rig was brand new and immaculate, so I assume it must have a GPS. Maybe the driver did not know how to use it. The other small problem was that the car did not wind up being top loaded, even though I had written this into my contract. However, the driver had carefully wrapped it in plastic and no oil had dripped onto the plastic, so no harm done. Finally, there might have been better communication between dispatch and the driver, because I gave Domestic all my phone numbers, but the driver called my work number at 7:30 pm expecting me to answer. Hindsight being 20/20, you should insist on getting the drivers cell number from the Dispatcher as soon as he calls you to negotiate the exact drop off time.
