Domestic Auto Transport provided excellent service when moving my car from Long Beach, California, to Culpeper, Virginia. I received numerous locational updates from my customer service representative, and the car arrived at its destination ahead of schedule and without incident or damage. The carrier was polite, responsive, and user-friendly. In short, Domestic earns five-stars for service within the continental United States.
This experience was not wholly replicated when moving my vehicle from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Long Beach, California. First, I did not receive disposition instructions from the dispatcher as previously indicated by the customer service representative and instead contacted the shipping line directly to confirm drop-off instructions. Then, upon arriving at the seaport of embarkation, the carrier did not accept my car because Domestic Auto Transport had not yet transferred the requisite funds to the sea carrier. Last, upon receiving the bill of lading from the shipper, I learned that Domestic Auto Transport consigned the vehicle shipment to Magic Carpet Auto Transport, a "F" rated company with the Better Business Bureau. [These two companies share the same owner and address.]
I'd note that the customer service representative quickly resolved the first two issues when brought to her attention. On both cases, she worked diligently and provided prompt response to my telephone calls. Given the stellar performance on the ground movement across the United States, I attribute the challenges departing Hawaii to lack of experience in overseas vehicle moves, and I expect that even with my move alone, Domestic gained valuable experience in coordinating seaborne vehicle transport and, I suspect, may resolve the aforementioned coordination shortfalls.
