Quote was 825- NJ to CO open trailer door to door. Much better than Cascade or Angels (approx 950) but more expensive than the DAS quote of 660. But DAS wasn't door-to door and had all sorts of horrendous add-on fees and very mixed reviews online. I found transportreviews.com a useful site to check out various truckers. Direct Auto scored very high. Placing the order online was simple- one all inclusive door to door quote and an order number (36724) and confirmation email with basic details. It would be better if the conf email had all the order details and was trackable online by me. However, the customer service reps were good when I followed up with a phone call and gave them my order number. Payment was simple- 150 by credit card to "auto transport direct" and 675 cash to the driver. My car got assigned by the broker to one trucker and then to another trucker (Merit express) the next day. It was picked up on day 5 (within the 7 day window) and then delivered in 5 days which was pretty good for 1800 miles. Driver Maurice Abbott delivered my Lexus in excellent condition; meticulous and cheery army technician from georgia- seems he found this driving gig online and was given a truck that wasn't in prime condition but he managed well despite having two flats on the road. He brought one car to Nebraska and 5 more to Denver- all from the Penn NJ areas so it looks like a reasonably efficient broker set up. One issue is they could have a better tracking/comm system- I had to call my car dealer in NJ to find out that the car had been picked up instead of getting a broker notification that it had been. Also I had to call the broker to find out where the car was a few days later; when I did that they got in touch with the trucker and I got a call in 5 minutes telling me where the car was. The broker had given me a cell number for Merit Express's office but calling that number myself didn't help- maybe they should have given me the driver's number. The driver called the evening before the car arrived to let me know when he would be coming in. Two-day notice would be much better.
All considered, a very good experience; I would definitely use the service again.
