Let me begin by saying this was my first experience of transporting a vehicle, so I diligently researched companies/brokers and their reputations. Obviously I was inundated with estimates from brokers and countless phone calls to boot. The prices ranged from mid $800s to as much as $1285 for the same "open" transport from Washington, Pennsylvania to Tucson, Arizona. The admonitions were by selecting the lowest bid might mean the vehicle sits awaiting a transporter to take the bid. That being said, my decision was based on the reputation/reviews and the business rating (BBB) and not so much on price. Direct Express Auto Transport had excellent reviews and an A+ BBB rating and is a large broker. The online quote originally stated $934 which put it in the lower middle range of estimates. So I decided to use them. I called rather than using the online order form. I spoke with Jessica who was knolwedgable and efficient in taking my order. Once she figured the destinations the quote was $884 ($50 less than the online quote). She double checked all the information for both locations (car was purchased online from a dealer) and my location in AZ. My CC was charged the broker fee of $159 only after a shipper was assigned. My order was assigned the following day. The shipping was to commence in 4 days with a 5 day transit.
