When I picked up my 1992 500SEL Mercedes Benz it was kept an unlocked, uncontrolled, lot. My vehicle was unlocked, driver window down and keys were on the driver side floor. I actually drove my car out of the lot where it was being "stored" without contacting anyone prior to doing so. After "officially" receiving my vehicle, I stopped to get gas, and found my gas cap missing. There is no such thing as a locking gas cap for my vehicle as when my vehicle is locked the fuel compartment door locks. Since my car was left unlocked, my gas cap was "free" for the taking. I guess I can be thankful that the person who snatched my gas cap wasn't interested in causing me further damage by "adding" a foreign substance into my fuel tank!
