Multiple attempts to resolve Mr. Allen's complaints with the transporter that hauled his vehicle have been made by our company. We did our best in reviewing all information possible from both Mr. Allen and the transport company relative to his damage claim. This included the signed bill of lading from the transporter, that noted several scratches and dents on the vehicle at the time of pick up and delivery both. Mr. Allen claimed that the driver made his sister sign a BLANK bill of lading upon pick up (without inspection), which goes against normal protocol on all vehicle shipments, prior to loading the vehicle in a safe location down the street. (Common sense states that one should not sign for something not completed.) The transporter's representative told us that the driver only has customers sign a bill of lading after on-site inspection, and then would have given Mr. Allen's sister a copy of the inspection sheet. Furthermore, since the bill of lading/inspection sheet stated the same scratches and dents on pick up as on delivery, their representative informed us that their insurance would not cover a damage claim not noted as damages done by the transporter.
Being the broker in this situation has put us in an unfair disadvantage regarding this review. Mr. Allen is more than entitled to his own opinions, but there's only so much we can do to help when the transporter's insurance covers damages, etc. Therefore, IF a damage claim should arise, we are always more than happy to help our customers in any way we possibly can. Mr. Allen was told on several occasions by different representatives of DAM that there wasn't much more we could do; the best thing Mr. Allen could have done was produce the copy of the original inspection sheet done at time of pick up &/or contact the carrier's insurance directly. To our knowledge, neither were done at our suggestion, hence this review has been written.
