My car transport experience - for better and not worse

My mother expressed her desire to stop driving her car due to her age and she wanted to gift her 1997 Toyota Camry to our college attending daughter. My mother lives in California and my daughter lives in Washington State. I did not want to drive the car from Los Angeles to Bellevue, Washington because of the mileage that would be put on the car and traveling through the mountain passes during winter can be dicey with the snow so I decided to hire a moving company to transport the car. Problem was, due to my mother's age and her reluctance to handle the pick up of the car in California, I would have to fly from Seattle to Los Angeles on a Saturday, handle the transaction and leave that same night for the return flight. That left a very small pickup window.

I had never done this before so I read some reviews on the internet first and found a few companies that I thought would do a good job. One never returned my calls. One could not promise a pickup window that small. If the pickup did not occur on time, I would be out of money for the round trip tickets and the car would not get transported. I finally called Angels Moving Auto's and they told me they would check with their trucking company to see if they could accomodate my request. Shortly thereafter, they returned my call and told me that SK Trucking could promise a pickup when I arrived in LA. It would cost $800. A little more money than I was quoted at some other companies but they promised a pickup on the date and time I wanted.

Long story short, the pickup was within a half hour of the pre-arranged time and only 5 minutes from my mother's residence. I was informed by the driver that our car was the last to be loaded before he would leave LA for Seattle which was great because a storm was predicted for the following day and the mountain passes might be closed as happened previously. The driver said he would give us a call when he arrived which he predicted would be around Monday noon at a Subaru dealership near our house. I spent the day with my mother and left on time that night for my return flight home. So far, everything had gone off like clockwork and without a problem.

When I arrived home after work Monday afternoon, I was told the driver had not called so I called the drivers cellphone and had to leave a message ( a little worried at this time). Shortly thereafter, the driver called to tell me that his truck had broken down in route but that he could still deliver the car by Tuesday at noon the following day. Sure enough, just after 10:00am the next day, the driver called my wife and told her to meet at the auto dealership. The truck showed up on time around noon and the car was off loaded. The car was extremely dirty but with an open transport during winter, that was to be expected. Except for needing a good wash, the car arrived in good shape.

After a thorough cleanup and wax job, the car was again looking like it was when it left Los Angeles, California . My first and only experience with transporting a car was extremely positive. The broker was helpful, informative and kept calling me to see how the delivery was proceeding. The trucking company kept their promise and delivered when they said they would
(despite the truck breaking down).

I would recommend the broker and trucking company without reservation. With all the things that could go wrong in this business, it was a real pleasure to have such a pleasant experience with Angels Moving and SK Trucking. And my daughter is VERY happy with her new car and thoroughly enjoying it. That makes it all worthwhile.
