I needed to move my granddaughter’s car from Florida to Indiana, where she was to start College at IU. Orientation was a specific date, and I live about 50 minutes from IU, so the delivery date was critically important. I researched every company I could find on the internet, long before I needed the service. I found a really good price at Mercury Transport early on in my research. I reached out to them by suggested text and email. Never got a response.
Then I started reading reviews of auto transport experiences. Scared the be-jesus out of me. Horror stories by the score. I wasn’t sure if I would even use one. Maybe fly down and drive back. (I’m to busy and too old for that!).
So I started making a matrix of pros and cons (I’m analytical like crazy), of each company, rating positive/negative reviews, BBB reviews (btw, BBB is a scam, as a former business owner- you pay: you get good press. You don’t, you don’t.). I looked at the nature of complaints to try to discern their validity. As best I could online.
Long story short, after six months thorough quantitative and qualitative research, I chose AmeriFreight Transport. Agent Lecia Phillips (pronounced “ Leesha”, not Lay si ya, lol), contacted me, gave me all the TRUTHFUL info I wanted, didn’t pressure me at all, and sent me what needed to happen with zero commitment.
AmeriFreight is a broker, as are all of the transport companies. Lecia found a carrier, Evans Transport, that would meet my requirements of time and value. My order No was 1501690936-WH.
Calvin Evans called me and said he would pick the car up on a date within my agreed upon window, and would deliver it to me in 2 days. I was cautiously pleased. After all the reviews of getting cars months later, I was still worried to no end.
Here’s where my story gets unique. On day one of the transport, Calvin calls me and says: “I’ve got some bad news. I was backing the car up on the transport carrier, and I accidentally knocked off the mirror. You don’t have to pay me anything when I deliver the car, and if it costs more to fix, I’ll be glad to cover it.” I’m thinking: uh-oh. As an aside: I didn’t purchase any offered insurance, so I’m thinking: “Oh boy.” Calvin delivered me the car as agreed, contact all the way, showed up exactly as promised, on exact time. A consummate professional. I felt bad not giving him the cash balance.
I could have taken the vehicle to the Toyota dealer and paid the $574 they wanted, but Calvin was pleasantly authentic as a businessman, and I want to be fair for someone’s efforts, so I fixed it myself for around $200, and I will pay Calvin the balance. Bravo Calvin, and Bravo AmeriFreight for DOING WHAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD
