This transport was my second in two months from the east coast to west coast facilitated by this company. The third overall transport in 3 months. The process is similar to that used by other companies. The company acts as a broker and a liaison between you and the long distance transport truck companies. Once you fill out and digitally sign the paperwork, this company posts your car on a electronic bulletin board, and enables all transport drivers/companies to bid on the move. Once you accept a bid, Amerifreight immediately charges your credit card "the deposit" which is actually the broker "fee" and then you pay the balance to the driver upon delivery. What did I like? Ali the Amerifreight representative who assisted me with both moves brokered by this company was knowledgeable, professional, and responsive. What I did not like? Well the hook Amerifreight get you with is an uber low initial "quote". It's actually an estimate, one that is unlikely to ever be accepted by a driver. But, it gets people to call back I guess. For both of my moves with Amerifreight, the initial quotes were $750 and $825 respectfully. The actual costs turned out to be $1000 and $1190. During the wait for a driver to bid, I was also offered the option to use other forms of transport such as loading the car on a train which of course was even more expensive. Everyone in the business of moving cars knows the going rates. I don't anticipate a reliable trucking firm take many low ball bids very often. I wish the Amerifreight quotes would have been for something close to the actual amounts being charged on specific routes. For my third move with another company, they quoted a price ($1100) and that's what I paid. The other thing was the paperwork. The other company I dealt with included insurance and had fairly simple easy to understand paperwork. The Amerifreight paperwork was a bit confusing and gives you options for quicker pick ups and insurance at a higher cost, and the option to agree upfront with giving your Amerifreight broker the ability to negotiate a higher price with the driver up to a certain point. I found all of this a bit annoying and unnecessary. The paperwork process can be much cleaner and is why I dinged them a notch. The best thing I believe these brokers do is to try and ensure that only drivers who they have had good experiences with get your business and get to move your car. There are lots of people in this business, some who are less than responsible or reliable. Keeping you and your vehicle away from people like that is worth their fee. That is where I believe Amerifreight does fine. There are hiccups from time to time with these transports. Drivers can potentially back out because they want more money and other reasons, and weather, or vehicle breakdowns. Ali at Amerifreight always did a fine job communicating the issues and ensuring the problems were overcome. And both cars were delivered to our home without issue. On a funny note, I found out that often on coast to coast transports, long haul drivers move the cars (normally) from the owners home to regional yards on the other coast. The cars are then transferred and driven by local drivers to the final location. I used different companies and the same driver delivered all the cars! Good luck!
