After yet another miserable Chicagoland winter helped delay finishing my project car, I decided that it was 'way past time to send it down to my son's house in Florida. I needed the option to work on it in year 'round warmth and then drive it whenever we wanted, with no concern for ice and snow. The engine and drivetrain were intact, but only a mass of wiring hung where the gauges should be (having removed the entire interior to replace things). It was obviously undrivable - not to mention that the soon-to-be-replaced windshield wasn't water-tight, the T-tops couldn't be latched in place after removal of all brackets and the battery was deceased. These issues complicated things a tad.
I knew better than to ask for advice from friends, neighbors or relatives, as most had bad experiences moving their vehicles cross-country, even though all been driveable. After reading numerous reviews and checking out various sites, I chose to contact AmeriFreight. Their site was well laid out and easy to navigate. I could have used the online tools, but decided to phone them since I had concerns and questions regarding the car not being driveable or weathertight. I talked at length with Graham Turner, who listened to my needs and took down the information. He addressed most of the questions during the initial call, but said that he would have to get back to me in a few days on the rest. He sent an e-mail with the estimate of costs and some options to choose from. I filled it out and replied back. Four days later, he sent an e-mail and phoned saying that he had lined up a reputable carrier that could fulfill my needs. The price was as we had discussed and I was pleased that we were able to get things lined up several weeks ahead of time.
Shortly after we hung up, I talked with Wally Dziobek of Luxury Line Inc., who was going to handle the vehicle from start to finish. He was obviously professional and verified all the details, so that pick up and delivery would go smoothly. He told me to call if there were any other concerns and also gave me his e-mail address. A few days before the scheduled pick up, AmeriFreight called to confirm that all was on schedule. Then, the day before pick up, Wally also called to confirm. He arrived promptly on time with his 18-wheeler... a massive enclosed carrier for transporting multiple show-cars. He told me that he'd been doing vehicle transport for many years. I didn't doubt it for a moment, as it was less than 20 minutes and our car was safely loaded up and on it's way. The day before delivery, Wally called my wife, who was at our son's place in Florida, to confirm that he was on-schedule. He arrived the next day right on time and the car was in the garage shortly afterward. She said it all went very well and he even positioned the Corvette in the space perfectly.
We both agreed that we couldn't have been happier with the whole process and have nothing but the best to say about Graham Turner of AmeriFreight, who matched up the right carrier with my needs, and Wally Dziobek of Luxury Line Inc., who took care of the actual transport of our vehicle. Thanks to both of them doing great jobs, I'll be able to finish up my project car more quickly in nicer weather, than I ever could have, up north. ~ Al K.
