I was hesitant going into this, especially after attempting to wade through the reviews of all the different shipping companies. But eventually I decided to try Amerifreight since they seemed to get decent feedback and their bid was appealing. I called Bob Turner and he quickly walked me through the process and explained how everything would work. Basically that they put the offer price up on the "board" and see if any truckers respond. He told me that the price they'd bid was the "economy" rate and it was suitable for people with some flexibility in their dates, he went on to say it had about a 20-30% chance of working. Since I didn't have a time issue I decided to try it, thinking it probably wouldn't happen. Well a few days after it went on the board I got a call from one of Bob's colleagues saying they'd had an offer for an additional $50. This sounded great to me so I decided to go for it. I then got a call from the trucker the next day saying he'd pick up the car the day after. (The trucker was from Rapid Transport). The next day the truck driver called and we met up in a parking lot just down the street from my house where we loaded up the car. Eight days later the car was on the east coast being delivered to the drop-off address.
I called Bob the day before the car was to be delivered to check on the status. He was very helpful and said he'd call the driver to check. A few minutes later I got a call back from Bob telling me that the driver said it'd be delivered the next morning.
So despite my hesitations the whole experience was extremely smooth and stress-free. Bob was very responsive and helpful at each step. I wouldn't think twice about using Amerifreight again.
*A word about incentivized reviews: Amerifreight offers a $50 "instant discount" to customers who leave a review after the shipment is completed. They stress that they're not attempting to bribe people for only positive reviews - just honest reviews. I suppose this it true, and I've certainly tried to be honest here, but it does create an impression of tilting the scale a little bit.
