Cars never ship

Based on reviews on this site we went with AAA for a cross country move. Big mistake. We should have checked the Better Business Burreau where they have an F rating. However, we did learn something from the process so you can learn from our mistake.


After the first ship date passed we received a call stating that there were mechanical problems with the truck and shipping would be delayed by 1 week. A week later we called and everything was supposedly on schedule. A day later we got a call that the driver had canceled the route and we would have to find another shipper. Would have been nice to know that a week earlier so we could set up an alternate shipper.


Turns out car shipping works like this: these companys act as brokers to independent drivers, they don't have their own trucks. So when they take your order they put out a bid which is the cost they give you, minus their broker fee. Truckers may accept the bid but then cancel if they ge a better offer. This is likely what happened to us. The low price offered by AAA, minus their broker fee which is well above industry standard, left us with a shipping price well below a competitive level so we repeatedly got dropped. AAA tried to cover their incompetence by claiming mechanical and driver troubles. Since they don't have drivers or trucks this obviously isn't the case.


These are exactly the complaints you see on BBB, wish we had checked earlier. One big difference is at least we got a refund without trouble, whereas others seem to have had problems. Lesson learned, a low price may look nice but there is no guarantee you'll get your car. Other people may well have had good luck with the company, but you run the very real risk of never getting your car. Then you get stuck trying to coordinate a new shipper from across country, relying on your friends to help with your car.

To "Kilian" You are not our customer. You did not ship your vehicle with AAA Anytime, Inc. We have no record of a "Kilian" in our system. Please remove this review asap. Thank you very much
