My First Time Shipping a Car

I was in a situation in which I had a car but didn't want to trade it in to buy a new one so I had two cars on my hands and no place to store the second car, so I needed it shipped (from California) to my mother in Colorado quick!

I went to a website and submitted my information and got a bunch of quotes back but after reading a bad review on the cheapest bids, I moved on to the next reasonable price. I actually called Auto Shipping late on a Sunday night but hung when there was no answer.

No less than like 5 minutes later Julie Johnson called me back on the phone and when I explained this was my first time shipping a car, she walked me through how the whole process works and she was direct and honest about the costs and what I could expect.

Her direct approach is what sold me and I decided to go with her and in doing so, I owed them a broker fee of $190 (to be charged to my credit card) and final payment of $600 (cashier check) upon delivery of the car. It is very important for me to state, her quote NEVER, EVER changed.

I was considering another option but they were messing around with the broker fee telling me they might charge more on my credit card upon pick up of the car but the total price would end up being the same. No way. I wasn't doing that.

The only slight issue was the actual company that picked up the car called me before the car was ready and rescheduled a pick up. Julie was so responsive though and we got everything rescheduled for a day that worked better for me. The company didn't show on the scheduled date but came the next morning. I had to do a lot of reshuffling and that was a pain, but they finally picked it up on Thursday and still promised me a Monday delivery.

My mother just called and the car arrived safely and the cashier check that I sent overnight was given and there was no hassle or any funny business about what was owed. It was exactly as much as Julie said it would be. Period.

The only thing is that with the mix-up with when the car was picked up, my credit card was charged (Wednesday) before they actually picked up my car (Thursday). But again, Julie was great. She offered immediately to reverse the charge on my credit card until the car was picked up. I opted to wait to see if they car was picked up that day and it was- Julie was on the phone with me at 7:00am, the car was picked up by 9:30 am.

All in all, not a bad experience, I'd use them again. I had two cars a week ago and it's the following Monday and my second car is at its destination and in great condition and with no real issue. I can't say enough nice things about Julie Johnston, she was great.

My only advice to people is to be a bit flexible going in and manage your expectations, they were a day late (by only hours really) but I think this business is like that and my car got to where it needed to be and in top shape- it just wasn't to the second or hour.
