Good Experience!

I previously selected a different broker, but cancelled in favor of finding a carrier on my own. After reading about Ship a Car Direct on their website, I viewed them as honest (telling us that we are not allowed to ship personal household goods in the vehicle "officially" whereas other brokers just say that you can ship a certain weight varying in the range of about 100-150 lbs) and I also really like their "Damage Free Guarantee" (check it out in their terms & conditions).

There were many complications during my experience. The main one was that the broker I cancelled with posted my vehicle on the carrier dispatch website without asking me. I asked them to cancel and they removed it. Since they were offering carriers more money, they were able to easily find me a match but it was impossible to fill my order with Ship a Car at a lower offer. After removing the listing, I was told by my contact at Ship a Car that the other broker again posted it. I had to again call them to cancel. Finally, it was Ship a Car's chance to help me find a match.

One plus with Ship a Car is that their quote to you will likely be lower than other brokers. Remember that there is no guarantee this will be your final price- I was told that "normally an additional $25 or $50 is enough to find a carrier." It depends a lot on the carrier supply, other offers higher than you, and who is available to take your car between your pickup and drop locations. If you are willing to wait more before your pickup, then there is a greater chance you will get a good deal. After about 1 day of no match and learning from a third broker that my current offer was not competitive enough, I realized I was going to have to raise my offer if I wanted to ship my car before I moved. I had to take the initiative to send my contact an email to raise the offer by $50 to $100. My contact raised my paid price by $100 and decreased the fee he was taking from me by $50 in order to increase the offer price to the carrier by $150. This got me a match the very next morning.

2 days later, my vehicle was picked up by the Carrier. The vehicle was picked up about 4 days after Ship a Car was able to look for a carrier match without competition from my first broker. There were 2 drivers so they wanted to deliver my vehicle (after only about 3 days of transit time) about 2 days earlier than I was available for pickup. I involved Ship a Car to talk with the Carrier, and I also showed my unwillingness to settle with (1) my car being held/stored while I got there or (2) asking a friend to take the delivery for me. The Carrier agreed and the pickup was made on time after about 5 days from pickup.

So overall, the process was complicated but a good experience! I got to learn a lot about how car shipping works. Ship a Car, including my representative, was very supportive throughout the process. The one complaint I have with the way Ship a Car operates is that each customer is assigned one representative. This means if I can't get ahold of my representative, I can keep calling around but I keep getting told that they will forward the request to my representative. So, this made it tough at certain times during the process to get all my questions answered promptly. My solution for that was to get the Manager's email and keep them in the loop as needed. Overall, I do highly recommend going with Ship a Car as your broker!
