Misleading and unhelpful

I had a horrible experience with AmeriFreight. I chose them because of their great reviews and low quote, but I found them misleading and unhelpful throughout the entire process.

First, the final price was way, way higher than the quote. My original quote was $955, and the final price jumped to $1275. They told me that the original quote could go up, but 33% is a huge change. That was without any of the various add-on’s (extra insurance, fees for paying with a credit card, $300 expedite fee that was wrongly applied, etc., etc.). They also kept coming back and increasing the price a little at a time. I was moving across the country, so with the deadline for shipping my car only days away, I felt like I had no other choice but to stick with AmeriFreight at the higher price.

Second, both the driver picking up the car and the driver dropping it off were very difficult to work with. They would call last minute and give very small windows to meet. The drop-off driver called at 10 pm wanting to drop off the car before 5 am the next day! Both my husband and I work, so this was extremely difficult to coordinate. The pick-up driver was also very scammy in how he marked pre-existing damages on the car. AmeriFreight is just a brokerage company, but clearly they have low standards for the shipping companies they work with.

Finally, my car arrived with damage to the hood. AmeriFreight said the shipping company had to handle the repair, and the shipping company said we had to talk to AmeriFreight. Ultimately AmeriFreight said they had no liability because I hadn’t purchased the extra insurance ($$). They left me on my own to figure it out.

The only positive things I can say are (1) AmeriFreight was very responsive to phone calls and e-mails and (2) the car arrived very quickly at my destination. Still, I would trade all that in for a more accurate quote and an undamaged car.

I would not recommend anyone ship a car with AmeriFreight.

It is unfortunate that this customer was displeased with the services provided by Amerifreight. However, we would like to explain several parts if this review more in depth. Our agents inform their customer's of each and every offer presented by a carrier company. This is to ensure that the customer is in complete control of which offer works best for their schedule and budget. The customer always has the option of declining an offer. We pride ourselves on using only the best carriers in the industry. We work with both an industry wide rating system and our own company's internal rating system to ensure that our customers receive top quality service. Should we be informed that a carrier's performance was unsatisfactory, they are no longer used by our company. Our agents offer every customer a gap protection plan to cover any potential damages that could occur during transport. Should a customer choose not to purchase the gap protection plan, they must work directly with the carrier to file a claim if damage occurs. However, even in those circumstances, our agents will still walk the customer through any necessary steps to assist them along the way. We apologize for the frustrations this customer encountered, but we also feel that this review is a misrepresentation of the customer service we provide to our clients. We hope that in the future, this customer will give us another opportunity to provide them with excellent service.
