A costly proposition

The service I received from Ali at Amerifreight was very good, inasmuch as she knowledgeably answered all my questions, frequently followed up and was always available.

I have no quarrel with either the company or the representative, but unless you have a lot of money to spare, my advice is to find someone - anyone - to drive your car to the destination. The entire shipping setup is stressful for the customer.

1. There is no option to deal directly with the actual carrier. You have to go through a broker.
2. The quote from the broker has no basis in anything, as far as I can tell. It's a number plucked from thin air. Case in point: I was quoted $995, and ultimately paid $1450.
3. I drove an RV cross-country and left my car with a neighbor for pickup. A carrier didn't agree to ship until I had already reached my new home and voluntarily increased my bid by $200 (in the end, the cost went up another $250). It took so long for my bid to be accepted that I had to rent a car for two weeks- no small expense.

Again, I don't blame Amerifreight. I suspect my experience would have been no better with any other company, and may have been much worse. The whole process is just a recipe for anxiety and major expense.
